In this digital world, when something explodes, it immediately becomes a trend. This is what Instagram achieved with its new application: Threads.
It would be like an extension of the main platform, designed to facilitate intimate and direct communication, with the slogan “a new way to share with text.”
That is, we can create publications based on text (up to 500 characters) but we can also add photos or videos. By definition it is very similar to another social network that has a little bird in its logo, just when its controversial? owner put new restrictions. Good timing, don’t you think?
Moving away from conspiracy theories and returning to the star of the moment: Threads seeks to differentiate itself from the direct messaging function on Instagram. It focuses exclusively on communication, constantly updated, and in real time with other people. The goal is to “enable positive and productive conversations.”
Keys and relationships of Threads with Instagram:
- Like any social network, you can control who mentions or responds to you.
- You can unfollow, block, restrict or report a profile, and any accounts you have blocked on Instagram will be automatically blocked.
- It allows you to share in stories what is happening in Threads, a subtle way to tell your followers to join this new app like you.
- As if that were not enough, you can integrate your profile link to your Instagram feed.
It’s like a shared universe that is so fashionable: everything connected!
Its premiere was on July 6, 2023 and in just a few hours it already had more than 10 million users.
What’s interesting is that Instagram has big plans for Threads: they soon plan to make it compatible with ActivityPub, (the open social networking protocol established by the World Wide Web Consortium). This would make Threads operate with other apps that also support this protocol, such as Mastodon and WordPress, allowing for new types of connections that simply aren’t possible in most social apps today.
