The first thing you should know is that a website is a set of files that are stored on a server, which is a computer connected to the Internet that allows other people to access those files from anywhere in the world. To make your website visible on the internet, you need two things: a domain name and a web hosting service.

Domain

A domain name is the address that identifies your website, for example: www.mysite.com. It’s like the name of your house, which tells people where to find you. A domain name can be purchased from a domain registration company, which is responsible for managing the available names and assigning them to the owners. The price of a domain name varies depending on the extension (.com, .net, .org, etc.) and the popularity of the name, but it is usually not very high. You can search for available domain names on sites like GoDaddy or Namecheap. If you are from Argentina, you will find even cheaper domain names, with .ar extensions, on the NIC.ar page and you can buy them if you have a level two tax code.

A home for your website

A web hosting service is the space where your website files are stored, that is, the place where your home is. A web hosting service is contracted with a hosting provider company, which offers you different plans depending on the capacity, speed and security you need. The price of a web hosting service depends on the type of hosting you choose (shared, dedicated, VPS, etc.) and the features it includes (bandwidth, disk space, technical support, etc.). You can compare different hosting options on sites like Hostinger or Bluehost. If you want an opinion from us, at Digital JUMP! We have been using Hostinger for a few years now and we recommend it. They have very good support, they are fast and they are very secure.

CMS (Content Managment System)

Once you have your domain name and your web hosting service, all you have to do is create the content for your website. To do this, you can use a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, which make it easier for you to design and manage your website. These CMS are installed on your server and allow you to create pages, posts, menus, images and everything you want for your website. You can also customize the look and functionality of your website with themes and plugins, which are add-ons that add additional features to your CMS. At Digital JUMP!, we use WordPress as our go-to tool as it allows us to provide a quick and efficient solution to our clients, while maintaining high quality standards.

As you can see, the basics that are needed to have a website are not too many things and here at Digital JUMP we can do all this management for you, since we provide you with a comprehensive domain, hosting and development service + a maintenance layer which is very important to be able to have your site ready, secure and fast.
